Virgil's dad lost his arm in a farming accident, and he sold Virgil to a human trafficker in order to recoup some of his losses. The then 8 year old boy couldn't really comprehend what his dad was doing. He did however quickly understand how terrible life in the rock quarry was going to be.
Virgil saw dozens of other kids covered in dirt and grime breaking and moving rocks. At the end of his first day, he fell asleep from exhaustion while on the job. The guards began to beat him, and he never fell asleep on the job again. All the kids huddled together in a little shed at night, and older boys beat the younger kids and stole their food.
Eventually, he was rescued. Today, he wants to either join the army or learn to be a mechanic. If he receives the training to become a mechanic, he'll have a good job that will allow him to provide for himself and others. Her training costs $1600 (donate the full amount here) or $133 a month for 12 months.
When you sponsor a scholarship, 100% of your donation goes to provide Virgil with life-changing training. You'll get updates from time to time on the progress that she is making.
