Taarush's father worked in the sewers, and he died after inhaling toxic fumes. His mother was left with no income and no compensation from the company. Taarush's mother was approached by a human trafficker, and they agreed on a price for him to go and work in a quarry. The job that was promised was good pay and good food, and they were told Taarush could leave whenever he wished. However, once he arrived, it didn't take him long to realize he had been lied to. Taarush was a slave.
The work in the quarry was beyond anything he could have imagined. He was only fed a little rice each day, and his 7 year old body was pushed to its physical limits. Day after day, he moved rocks and crushed larger ones with a hammer. Night after night, he slept on slabs of rock while scorpions and snakes hunted for bugs. He was terrified. The horror of the quarry lasted for years.
Then one day out of the blue, the guards weren't hovering around. In fact, the guards were nowhere to be seen. Instead, there was a different group of women and men escorted by police officers. Taarush and the other kids had been rescued. He was taken to a safe house to recover. He saw a doctor and received medicine that helped him get stronger. His training costs $1600 (donate the full amount here) or $133 a month for 12 months.
When you sponsor a scholarship, 100% of your donation goes to provide Taarush with life-changing training. You'll get updates from time to time on the progress that he is making.
