Sanjay's mother became suffered a breakdown after having losing several children in childbirth. Sanjay's father could not afford the psychiatrist, and he asked Sanjay to temporarily work in a rock quarry so that he could care for Sanjay's mother. At 6 years old, he went to work, and he hasn't seen his parents since. In the quarry, he suffered severe blisters on his hands and feet from the combination of dehydration, silica dust and lack of proper clothing. Sanjay worked from sunrise to sundown breaking rocks and loading them into trucks.
Sanjay was rescued in the Spring of 2020, and he came to live at The Sylom Children's Home. Today, Sanjay is 8 years old. Our search and rescue teams are still hoping to find his parents, and Sanjay is attending school. His favorite class is Telugu, and someday he hopes to become a teacher.
