The Sylom Children's Home houses 1200 children, and that requires a lot of caretakers. These caretakers cook, clean, and fill roles as mothers. The caretakers we hire are primarily widows with no other place to go. Culturally, many widows are considered bad luck and are often shunned by their families.
When they enter our employment, they have their daily needs met and receive a salary that can help them rebuild their lives. Both these widows and the children they serve find a home with each other.
Providing a caretaker's salary for a month means the rescued children receive love, attention, good food and clean places to live.
