Kallie's father fell while harvesting fruit from a tree. He was hospitalized for weeks, and even when he got out, he wasn't able to return to work. Kallie's mother began working to provide for the family, but because she is illiterate, there were not any good opportunities. Kallie went to work in a rock quarry after her parents were tricked by a trafficker.
In the rock quarry, there were other children, but Kallie felt all alone. She worked from dawn until dusk in dirty rags. She was forced to break rocks with a hammer designed to be used by child workers. At night she slept on the bare rock floor of the quarry alongside other children.
In the Spring of 2020, one of our search and rescue teams found Kallie and 14 other children working in this quarry. They were all rescued. Most of the children returned to parents, but Kallie's parents and a few of the others haven't been found yet. While our teams continue to search for her family, she has rejoined school and is thriving at The Sylom Children's Home. She wants to become at teacher, and her favorite past time is listening to music.
