Anna's parents couldn't read, and this allowed swindlers to take advantage of them. They ran up large debts because they were tricked. Eventually, the corrupt money lenders showed up with policemen as enforcers, and they took Anna and her siblings as collateral for the debts their parents owed.
Anna never saw her siblings again. She was taken to a rock quarry and immediately put to work shoveling gravel into baskets and loading them into trucks. Anna's lungs became heavily irritated by the dust from the rocks. The lack of rest and good food meant that her she didn't recover and coughed constantly.
In 2019, Anna was rescued by one of our field teams that inspect for underage workers and trafficking victims. Anna was taken to a safe house and given time to receive good food and counseling. Today, she lives at The CFC Children's Home where she goes to school and has friends her own age. She has learned to read and is being taught to understand the Bible. Her favorite class is English Someday, she hopes to become a nurse.
