Sumi and her brother ran away from home when they overheard their parents planning to offer Sumi has a human sacrifice to appease the gods. Human traffickers tricked them into entering a rock quarry where they became slaves. In the quarry, Sumi and her brother saw people killed by falling rocks and other accidents, but pastors came and rescued 54 children. Almost all the children were reunited with their parents, but when the police heard their story about the guru and the drugs, Sumi's parents were arrested and sent to prison for child endangerment.
Today, Sumi lives in The Sylom Children's Home where she has met the God that rescues body and soul. She loves reading books, taking Telugu class and she hopes to become a doctor.
